In order to maximise fuel economy in all conditions many cars use a lambda sensor to measure the air to fuel ratio of the combustion mixture and adjust the fueling accordingly. This means the engine is running optimally in all conditions compensating for factors such as ambient temperature, ambient pressure, injector wear, sensor calibration and many more. Typically a narrowband sensor is used which allows and ECU to control the air fuel ratio to stoichiometric (14.7:1).
However modern wideband sensors allow the ECU to control to a broad range of air fuel ratio depending on user requirement. AugTronic can use a wideband sensor to control fueling to a user specified value to maximise fuel economy and performance. Any wideband sensor with a 0-5V output can be used for this purpose.
Using 3D tuner the AugTronic ECU can be calibrated to achieve a target AFR that can be set vs Load and RPM. So you can target 14.7:1 at cruise and 11.5:1 under boost for example.
